I was perusing the Site tonight, going into areas I don't normally tread.

Over Here, there is a page that lists Top Solid Surface brands. Can someone explain to me how this page works? Is it a rotating page, that renews each time you load? Because I'm looking at the page and I find myself saying "Hmm, yep...Yeah, them too...Sell it... Sell thyat too...Heard about that one...Ummm, I think I've heard about that one, but it's not local...Wow, never heard about them, them or them... Wait a minute! Where's these guys and those guys?..."

So I guess I'm asking, what does ISSFA use as a guide to recognize a "Top Brand".

Hmmm...
maybe it's because of the estone spam blurb on the forum front page, but I'm surprised no one has answered yet. I may have to post this elsewhere?

Hi Tom,

I will have to check with Joe but...
It looks like those are ISSFA mamber companies all being shown to consumers on a consumer page. To show one member and not all would be a problem. Also, what is big in one part of the country may not be in another or a differnt part of the world.

I will have Joe reply

Bill, if I might make a suggestion, wouldn't clarifying it to say Solid Surface ISSFA Sponsors or some such be more accurate? I have really never heard of some of these brands, hardly think that some of them deserve to be there as a "Top Brand", and I am perplexed as to why some brands that do more volume, are better known, and probably have better customer service are not there. If it because they are not sponsors, then shouldn't the classification "Top Brand" be revised?

To be honest with you Tom, after 25 years in this biz, there's a few of those I've never heard of. Especially the "regional" ones. Like the "region" of China.

Hmmm...
I thought this was an out of view forum area. I don't know why a guest would be able to access it. I did not intend for it to be in a public part of the forum.

Weird.

By the way, dave, I talked with the otyher Dave about the Dry Treat. I think you may get me on board with this. He will be calling you next week (I think) to see how you want to work this. He actually called me while at home taking care of some sick family members. Seems to know his stuff.

It has nothing to do with contributions or donations. ISSFA promotes member companies. If a company/material is not on the list, maybe you should ask them why not.

Okay, this just moved into the arena of silly.
Unless a brand is a member of ISSFA it cannot be considered a top brand? Is that what I'm hearing?
And if they are a member of ISSFA, they are top brands?

C'mon, Bill, you guys can do better than that.

"Solid Surface members of the ISSFA Family"
"ISSFA recommended brands of solid surface"
"ISSFA recommends the following solid surface brands"

"These are the companies that agree to the principles established by the International Solid Surface Association. By agreeing to these principles, ISSFA feels you will get the best customer service from supply through fabrication and installation."

The way you guys promote the products tell us a lot about how you approach the industry and the Association.

Silly is not the word...just plain stupid pretty much sums up that bullspit.  Give the world a break guys, "top brand" has NOTHING to do with some of that crap that you list and you know it.

Top donation to ISSFA maybe...

Now this is solely my opinion. I read this thread and looked at the page in question. I'm not sure this is an answer anyone is looking for; but here we go. As I looked at the page last night I asked myself alot of questions.
TOP BRANDS! WOW! That is a powerful statement. Then I looked at all the names on the list and how that relates to ISSFA. ISSFA is suppose to be the voice in the industry. By claiming these are top brands, isn't that promoting the industry in a way? Maybe it should read Quality Brands! I don't know what the politically correct term should be; but I'm open to other positive suggestions.
,
One fabricator may say his / her brand (one that they promote) is on that list. Another fabricator may say the brand he or she offers is not represented on that list. The only thing I can say to that is, why isn't the manufactuers name on that list. Every manufactuers name should be on that list. The industry is small in comparison to other industries; we as fabricators should be doing all we can to get the manufactuers to work with us in promoting the industry. We can debate all day long to why or why not a manufactuers name is not on that list. Point is it should be; they should be members. I volunteer my time for the betterment of the industry and I think more people should be involved as well. That is another debate for somewhere else. At least I try to make a difference; just like plenty of other people who stand up along with me. If someone has a better idea than TOP BRANDS, let's hear it. Top brands sounds pretty positive to me; but I'm open to sugestions as I said before.
Someone said it was all about the money. A non-profit organization unfortunately has to rely on sponsorship dollars, donations, dues, advetising, tuition, ect., to operate. If someone has an extra money tree to donate to the association, I'm sure they would except. The fact is some of the names on the list are sponsoring members; but they are all members. To all of them I say THANK YOU FOR THE SUPPORT!
After all, ISSFA is an International Asscociation. This may explain a little further as to why some of the names are not familliar to all of us. However, they may be familiar to a fabricator just like you or me somewhere in the world. Just my thoughts on the situation.

Regards,

KUrt Bonk
