What are the latest trends in solid surface materials(colors, textures, applications, etc)?
“Most of the manufacturers of solid surface have added colors that have the look of either concrete or wood or both. For example, Dupont Corian has its Private Collection series that has a unique aesthetic as well as new colors that mimic the look of concrete. Mystere has colors that look like wood. In addition, EOS has a new 3CM product that eliminates the need to laminate the edge.”
Are there any new uses for solid surface materials in either residential or commercial markets?
“I would not say the uses are necessarily new. However, since solid surface has been approved by the FDA for use in commercial kitchens (stainless steel is the other product with FDA approval) and has also been approved by NAID (National Allergy & Infectious Disease), solid surface is being increasingly used in hospitals, including surgery room counters and wall cladding. It is the product of choice for many restaurants, such as Starbucks, and because of the added value that it performs very well in high usage areas, it is being used in food courts, airport ticket counters, schools, health clubs/spas and military housing. Bath products are also making a bigger impact — wet walls, shower pans, etc. — as well as institutional applications that meet the health codes for non-bacterial surfaces."
